His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Inaugurates the Global AI Summit
Riyadh, October 21, 2020: Convened by the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) and held under the patronage of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, the first day of the Global AI Summit commenced with a speech from His Royal Highness the Crown Prince delivered by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of SDAIA. HE Dr. Al-Ghamdi, speaking on the Crown prince’s behalf, emphasized that the goal of the Global AI Summit was to foster artificial intelligence, mobilize its capabilities and utilize its potential for the good of humanity.
He also stressed the importance of the Kingdom’s pioneering role in reducing the digital gap between developed and developing countries – especially after the challenges that the world has gone through this year – using proven artificial intelligence technologies that are already shaping a new global reality and redefining our ways of life.
HE Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi invited all innovators, investors and opinion leaders to join the Kingdom’s efforts and build a groundbreaking model that unlocks the power of data and AI to advance knowledge economies for both present and future generations. He also highlighted the initiatives that the Kingdom is currently working on through SDAIA and its global partners to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence.
The Global AI Summit will continue until tomorrow, October 22, with a range of unique activities held under the theme: ‘AI for the Good of Humanity’. The agenda includes several ministerial sessions and various workshops on: Shaping the New Normal, AI and Governments, Future of AI, and Governing AI. The Global AI Summit coincides with the Kingdom’s presidency of the G20 Summit and is a milestone event in the agenda of the Saudi and international digital economy.
